GALERIE GRILL

Galerie für Kunst und Design

Galerie Grill was founded in 2021 and is located in the heart of Graz's historic city centre. The gallery programme focuses on paintings, prints and sculptures, which are complemented by 20th century design positions and aims to offer visitors an exciting journey through the contemporary art scene.

In three to four exhibitions per year, a curated selection of both internationally renowned artists and promising talents of the younger generation are shown.

Galerie Grill contributes to cultural diversity in Graz and creates a space for dialogue between artists, art lovers and experts. It promotes the exchange between different art forms and styles through regular exhibitions and supports the discovery and promotion of talents from the region.

Plastische Kunst

Between object and sculpture

The transitions between object, sculpture and sculpture are fluid - and it is precisely in this border area that the exhibition begins. While the object is often understood as a found object or conceptual setting, the sculpture is characterized by an additive process. Sculpture, on the other hand, is usually created by subtractive processing of the material. What happens when these categories overlap?

The exhibition brings together contemporary artistic positions that deal with form, material and space. Using different approaches, the works on display examine central aspects of sculptural design and expand classical definitions.

The focus is on materiality, volume, surface and context. Some works can be altered, have functional elements or are movable. Together, they invite us to consider the concept of sculpture in a broader sense - as an open field between object, sculpture and sculptural form
