GALERIE BACHLECHNER

After several years in Graz city centre and Vienna, Galerie Bachlechner moved into its new premises in Liebenauer Hautpstraße in Graz in 2021. They now show thematic group exhibitions and representative solo exhibitions of their artists on 200 m² in a classic white cube. The focus of their programme is on artistic positions that deal with issues of figuration and realism in the context of contemporary discourses. With its roots in the 1960s and Art Brut, the gallery has been focussing on emerging and mid-career artists from Austria and Germany for many years now. Through persistent work and progressive exhibitions, the gallery aims to reach the widest possible audience and raise awareness of contemporary forms of expression.

YUN WANG

Yun Wang (*1982 China) originally came to Vienna to study opera singing, but turned to painting and completed her studies with Daniel Richter. Wang transforms the flowing transitions of Chinese ink drawings and cloudy landscapes into pulsating pictorial spaces. She developed a technique to transfer the flow of the ink drawing into painting using glazing oil paint. In her creative process, she combines intuition and experience by superimposing layers of colour and creating a dynamic pictorial effect. Sometimes she removes the paintings from the stretcher frame, folds and crumples them in order to create permanent sculptural objects from this state using epoxy resin, which she arranges in installation-like formations. Her inspiration for the folded canvases comes from scientific theories about multidimensional universes.
